Optimizing Your Website for the Search Engines - Part 3
By Tawnya Sutherland
Now you’ve chosen your keywords, what now?
#1, you need to incorporate your keyword phrases into your main content.
A few tips for the main content on your webpage are as follows:
* Remember that content is KING so you should always have a bare minimum of 250–300 words on each page. 1200 words per page have been proven
to optimize better than 250 words for keyword phrases. Seems like a lot of words on your webpage but remember why people come to the Internet, it
is for information.
* Never try to optimize for more than 2 or 3 keyword phrases per page as this may end up diluting all of the phrases.
* Make sure each word stands alone ie) We offer “medical/legal transcription for small businesses”. The slash in this case makes it an
unreadable word for the search engine so you must change it. Either separate the slash with a space on either side or it or better yet say “We
offer medical transcription and legal transcription for small businesses” in your copy.
* Keep the majority of your keyword phrases in the top fold of your website The top fold is the area of your website you can see in your
browser window without having to scroll down.
Final word about content…it is KING remember?? Anyhow, if you are on a budget write your own content. If you are going to spend any extra money
in your business, I would suggest hiring a professional website copywriter as they know exactly how to incorporate your keywords effectively into
your content.
